Targeted Fisheries Assistance Program (TFAP)

Cook Inlet Chilling

The first TFAP grant, "Cook Inlet Chilling," addresses the lack of chilling infrastructure in the Cook Inlet salmon fishery. In May of 2004, Cook Inlet Salmon Brand, Inc. received a 75% matching grant of $725,000 for the purchase and installation of ice machines along the Cook Inlet shoreline between Nikiski and Kasilof. Ice machines will be operation in time for the 2005 season. Final site locations and equipment specifications are in development.

As the regional branding organization for Cook Inlet salmon, CISB markets high quality, pinbone out fillets under the brand name Kenai Wild. In 2002 and 2004, CISB also received Alaska Regional Salmon Marketing Mini-Grant funds for its branding program.
